This week the Salem / Morrow Fire Department is working on fire hose testing. We do this every year to make sure all of our hoses are ready to be used. It also contributes to our ISO (Insurance Services Office) rating which helps our residents to receive reasonable fire insurance rates on their properties. Just so everyone knows the Salem / Morrow Fire Department has a 4 / 4Y ISO rating, which is pretty good. This saves our residents and businesses money. The rating is on a scale from 1 to 9 with 9 being the worst.

This process takes about 1 and ½ weeks to complete. Then if we have a hose that fails we have to fix it and retest it. Thank you to the firefighters of Salem / Morrow Fire Department for making this the best FIRE DEPARTMENT to work for.

Over the weekend Salem / Morrow Fire Department was dispatched to 15 runs. We assisted Union Twp on a Structure fire, we had to request mutual squad twice for back up squad runs, was request once for a mutual aid squad run, and we requested assistance for a possible structure fire in our own area. Luckily it was not a structure fire. We are in need of EMS and Fire Volunteers. We could have made our own back up squad run if we had one more EMS personnel. This would have helped us provide for our residents and we would not have burden our neighboring fire departments. The department we called was busy themselves on Saturday. Plus when we had our possible structure fire we did not have enough drivers for apparatus it took us a long time to get out. If you are interested in volunteering please stop by and talk with an officer. You would have to go get certified as an EMT, Fire Fighter, or both. Plus maintain your certifications.

Here are our requirements: Must volunteer 12 hours a week, make 70% business meetings, and 70% of Fire and/or EMS trainings depending on your certifications. You can pick up an application from the Salem / Morrow Fire Department at 5270 East US 22 & 3 Morrow, Ohio 45152. If you have any questions contact an officer at 513-899-2222 See MoreSee Less
